Why Travel with Us?
Here are 9 Ways We Take Care of You and the World
1. Your Journey Does Good at Home and for the World.
Our mission is responsible, sustainable travel that benefits the local people and ecosystems at the destinations. When done with these principles and practices, travel benefits the world by enhancing the well-being of local people, helping preserve healthy ecosystems and the wildlife that inhabit them, fostering understanding between people, and making the world a better place. In short, the right way of travel can do good in the world.
Additionally, with every ticket sold, Destination: WIldlife makes a pre-determined donation in your name to a conservation-missioned US nonprofit organization. The trip description tells you what the donation will be and what organization will benefit. You get an unforgettable journey—plus a tax-ready receipt.
It’s all in black and white, so check out the trip offer to see how your unforgettable vacation helps. We work with US 501c3 organizations such as the Grassland Bird Trust, The Wolf Conservation Center, Project SNOWstorm, the Felidae Conservation Fund, and others. Do you know of a local nonprofit that could use our help? Let us know.
And Your Experience Will Be Unforgettable
2. The Paths Few Travel
We explore some of the earth's most beautiful and biodiverse places, from lush rainforests to silent deserts, from mountain tops shrouded in clouds to vast expanses of grassland, páramo, and prairie, and from rich deltas to the oceans beyond. We connect with and learn from local people and indigenous cultures. The pictures in your camera will pale compared to those etched into your heart. Come! Enjoy the world’s wonders with us!
3. Nature, Wildlife, Birds - And the Local Cultures that Protect it All - It’s What we do
Experiencing the magic of lion cubs wrestling in the afternoon sun, wolf packs interacting, a pod of humpback whales bubble-net feeding, or a snowy owl swooping silently down on its prey or learning from local folks about how their ancestors lived with these creatures since time immemorial, or spending time with researchers on the site is unforgettable and life-changing.
If you are you looking for a mega-cruise or shopping trip, sorry, we cannot help you.
But if you yearn to learn and understand about this wonderful world as well as experience it - please join us!
4. We Travel in Small Groups
The small group size keeps your experience personal, our footprint small, and allows us to visit places that bigger groups cannot. And in these small groups, our professional local guides have more time to answer your questions, explain, help, and enhance your journey. On many trips, we meet with scientists, researchers, or others to dive deeper into a species or ecosystem. This is not just about a check mark on the map - the world opens to you in our small groups. Enjoy. Experience. Learn!
5. We Don't Like Crowds
And we assume you don’t either. Hordes of tourists over-loving once-pristine landscapes have caused disastrous results. Many of our bio-rich destinations are in the world's unique, ecologically fragile corners. We seek out places that need love and gently explore them. And when we can, we take advantage of the shoulder seasons, saving you money and ensuring breathing space! Come explore - and breathe - with us!
6. Your Journey Does Good at the Destination: We Travel Responsibly, Ethically – and Authentically
Experiencing life - that is what we think traveling is all about. We seek out locally owned accommodations, local guides, cafes, and other services for an authentic connection to the destination you don’t get with international resorts and providers. And “going local’’ with tourism helps to support a non-extractive economy that helps preserve the biodiversity of fragile ecosystems.
7. We Take Care of You
Thinking About Joining Us?
Let’s talk. Before sending you out, we want to know you: How’s your health? What activities do you enjoy? Do you scale mountains or prefer to stroll maintained paths? Are you a bird or wildlife “lister,” watcher, or just interested? Do you take photos for your friends, for your profession, or is photography your passion? Let’s talk about what to pack, what to expect, flights, special diets, travel requirements, safety, trip insurance, etc.
We want to ensure the trip and conditions are right to make yours an unforgettable (great) journey. If you are like me, you do not like surprises - let’s talk before you commit. Call me +1 (908)656-4016 ask for Roberta
Before We Travel Together
We feel the best trips are with friends—even if we have never met before. We plan one or two Zoom sessions prior to our trip date to meet each other and our trip mates, share travel tips, and answer the questions on everyone’s minds.
During the Trip, We Monitor Flights and Conditions.
Weather (and other things) happen. When the situations change, we are ready to help.
Each Small-group Trip Includes a Local guide AND an Experienced Leader.
Why? Your Guide may be a local professional biologist, birder, naturalist, or conservationist who will ensure that you see, experience, and learn all possible about your destination. The leader is there to ensure you are comfortable, all your questions are answered, and to share a laugh or two!
After the trip,
We want to know what you loved and what we can improve. Your feedback is important to us!
8. Sheets, Plumbing, and Good Meal
Camping and backpacking are not my cup of tea - but I love the outdoors and wildlife. Unless specifically outlined otherwise, ALL trips include a lodge with a good bed and sheets, plumbing, and good meals. I promise! (However, not all of the most interesting places have hot water and WiFi - so ask.)
9. Lastly - Because Travel Done Right Helps Make the World a Better Place
Every Destination: Wildlife trip has a double impact, supporting biodiversity, conservation, and local people at home and at the destination - plus they’re fun! Wait a minute! - isn’t that a triple impact? Join us on
